A Reflection on Value

Let's build wisely

As I’m sitting here this evening reflecting on the efforts of the day, I have noticed that with our last email we had a few folks unsubscribe from the list. While this can happen for several reasons, most notably the massive amount of useless email we receive day to day, I took a moment to reflect on this act.

I had put myself in the shoes of the recipient and thought, oh great, another email that I have to deal with – unsubscribe quickly, before it piles up.

I’m certainly not taking the unsubscriptions personally, nor do I fault those that have unsubscribed, but I did take note on the state of our industry where the content being sent to our would-be audience has taken such a reduced-value state as to solicit an unsubscribe rather than an anticipation at some golden nugget that would help us manage or run our operations more efficiently.

Anyone that knows me, or has spent anytime as a client of Newcare can quickly attest that we strive to deliver value with every interaction. It’s part of why we do this thing. And yet, our industry, or the technology, is eroding the landscape of service. I think it is incumbent upon us to fight back against this trend. Perhaps it requires us to highlight the value we offer in a different light, or perhaps we package our value within a different framework – I’m still noodling on this subject, but it distresses me a little to think that I may not be fulfilling my end of this by falling victim to some quick-scheme.

I always welcome feedback and if you have some nugget of advice to offer, please send it along. I strive to share decades of experience and knowledge with this market and help make the lives of those within our care better each day. It’s what gets me out of bed each day and I know that most every CEO or c-suite exec in this industry share this same mindset. We serve to enrich the lives of people under our care.

I conclude with the challenge – let’s fight back at the quick win’s, the instant gratifications and let’s invest in those around us; to strengthen those younger souls joining our teams and embrace those folks we are serving as they travel the remaining days and years on this earth – to enrich their lives, offer friendly smiles, and words of encouragement. All too soon it will befall upon us to undertake this final trek.

Let’s build wisely.
